We are so excited to have you as part of the St. Vincent-St. Mary community! Starting a new school year brings lots of anticipation, and we want you to feel confident and connected as you begin your journey with us.
This page is here to guide you through the essentials - from uniforms and schedules to events and helpful contacts - so you can easily find what you need and focus on what matters most: helping your student thrive at STVM.
| School Hours/Block Schedule |
STVM follows a 6-of-8 Rotating Drop Block schedule. Students will take eight courses, with six classes meeting each day for 55 minutes on a rotating schedule, providing more frequent class meetings and consistent instructional time throughout the week. The school day runs from 7:55 a.m. to 3 p.m. and includes Morning Meeting and two Lunch/Flex periods. Please see our Block Schedule Rotation and Bell Schedule for more details. |
| Before & After School – Hours & Procedures |
Doors open at 7:00 a.m.; school begins at 7:55 a.m. Information about pickup and drop off procedures will be shared in Irish Weekly prior to the first day of school. After School Policy: All students must be in a supervised activity or signed into the Extended Supervision Room by 3:15 p.m. each day. Extended Supervision (Room 131) runs from 3:15 - 4:30 p.m. at no cost and is required for students not in a supervised activity. Pickup is at the Band Entrance only, and late pickups after 4:30 PM will incur a fee. Academic wings will be locked at 3:15 p.m. and are off-limits without staff permission. |
| Registration |
| Registration for incoming freshmen takes place in March, with dates, times and details communicated via email to parents. At registration, families will submit a course request form that will indicate which classes the student would like to take. STVM will recommend courses and course levels based on each student’s grade school grades and HSPT scores. Faculty from STVM’s academic departments will be on hand at registration and are happy to help families who would like more input on course requests or recommendations. Also at registration, the student fee of $425 (non-refundable) is due, along with your tuition contract agreement indicating a payment plan. |
| Course Schedules/Grades |
| Course schedules (classes and teachers) are released via MyIrish in August each year. After they are released, STVM will announce the dates for the schedule change request period, during which students who wish to request a schedule change can fill out their request and pay the $50 schedule change fee. All grades are reported via MyIrish. |
| Summer Assignments |
| To help students stay sharp and be prepared for the year ahead, most students will have some required summer assignments before the start of school. Assignments will be posted on our summer assignments page in May of each year. Students should download the assignments that apply to their specific classes and complete the work before classes begin. Most English classes require students to read books over the summer, which involves a significant investment of time, so it is important for students to get started as early as possible. Many math classes also have assignments. Additionally, students wishing to take Global Studies (combined class of Honors World History and Honors English I) and/or HAPS (combined class of Honors Algebra 2 and Honors Physics) may need to complete additional placement testing the summer before freshman year; details will be available at registration. |
| School Supplies |
| Most students will receive supply lists from individual teachers on the first day of school. Minimal school supplies are required. For most classes, basic supplies required include pencils, pens, notebooks, notebook paper, binders, highlighters, and folders. Students in art classes and advanced math classes may be required to buy special supplies or pay a supply fee. |
| Lunch Accounts |
| STVM students may bring their own lunch or purchase lunch at school. Students may pay in cash for lunch or pay with a Online Lunch Account account, which will be linked to the student’s ID, which allows you to do online deposits of money in lunch accounts. The PaySchools system will notify families via email when the student’s lunch fund is running low, and families can go online and add money to the account at any time. Information on setting up a PaySchools Central account will be provided at freshman orientation in August. School lunches are à la carte, meaning there is no set meal plan or flat rate. Students simply pay for the items they choose, similar to ordering at a restaurant or café. |
| School Communication |
| STVM sends a weekly email to parents on Fridays at 3 p.m. with a link to “Irish Weekly,” an online newsletter that will keep you up to date. In addition to the Homepage, there are separate sections for Campus Ministry, Service, Seniors, Counseling, and Athletics, all of which are updated weekly. In addition, STVM shares news and events via social media and email. Important/urgent messages are communicated via automated phone calls and email, so it is important that parent phone numbers and email addresses are properly entered into MyIrish. |

| Tuition Payments |
Families will receive emails when tuition bills are due, based on the payment plan you choose. Payments can be made online or in person via checking, savings, or credit card. (A small convenience fee applies to card payments.) Tuition payments may be made online via Blackbaud Tuition Management. Payment Options:

| Uniforms/Dress Code |
Students follow a formal dress code, which includes a polo shirt (with STVM logo) with either khakis (year-round) or shorts (1st/4th quarters only), and a skort option for girls. Please see our dress code for guidance on what footwear is acceptable during the school day. Families have two main options for purchasing school uniforms:

| Chromebooks |
| Every student receives a Chromebook in their freshman year, which is theirs to keep, even after they graduate. |
| Busing/Transportation |
STVM Shuttles: STVM operates shuttles, for a fee, along various major routes throughout the greater Summit and Stark County areas. Note that locations can vary each year based on demand. For more details, visit stvm.com/transportation. School Districts: Some local districts provide transportation to STVM, and some districts will reimburse parents for the cost of transportation (sometimes called “payment in lieu”). In both cases, it is the responsibility of STVM parents to contact their home districts to begin the process. For more details, visit our transportation page. Metro Bus Service: Students who live in the Akron Public School district may be eligible for free or reduced-priced metro passes. Contact Metro Central Registration/Bus Passes at 330-761-2961 regarding eligibility and to arrange an appointment. |
| Student ID & Email |
| All students are issued a student ID. Students must have their ID with them at all times during school hours. IDs must be used in the lunchroom when buying lunch. A digital ID is available for use at events outside of school hours. A replacement ID will cost $10. |
| Parents’ Club |
| The STVM Parents’ Club is always happy to welcome parents/guardians! Our active and energetic Parents’ Club supports the students, staff, and school in many different ways, including: special activities for seniors, events for families of incoming freshmen, refreshments for open houses, appreciation lunches for teachers, and several all-family tailgates for sporting events. Parents’ Club fundraisers include an annual used uniform sale, plant sales, and spirit sign sales. For more information, visit our Parents Club page. |
| Athletics Tryouts/Information |
All families with student athletes must create a FinalForms account for both the parent/guardian and the student. You will fill out the required forms annually in FinalForms as well as upload a copy of your annual physical. Important: the Athletics Department uses email lists from FinalForms for many communications to the families of athletes. So, please log in early and make sure to check off any sport in which your student is interested. This does not commit your student to anything, but it will put your family in the email list for each sport, so you will receive information about that sport, including tryout and workout schedules and opportunities. |
