Our School

Our Mission Statement

In the spirit of the Gospel, we are committed to educate the whole person to lead and to serve: enlightening the mind, developing the body, touching the heart, and inspiring the soul.

a legacy of pride & tradition

At St. Vincent-St. Mary, our proud legacy of faith and tradition, inspires a forward-thinking, innovative academic experience.

As Akron’s oldest Catholic high school and a Marianist-sponsored school, STVM is deeply rooted in a tradition of educating the whole person while preparing students for the future.

Our academic programs open doors for every type of learner, from those looking for a robust college-preparatory curriculum and hands-on research opportunities to students interested in specialized entrepreneurship training or our CareerReady program. At STVM, students are challenged to engage directly with community partners, applying what they learn in the classroom to solve real-world problems.

This hands-on, experience-based learning creates an education that is community-driven, interdisciplinary, and profoundly human. While innovation is central to our identity as the only STEAM-designated Catholic high school in Ohio, STVM remains deeply rooted in our Marianist charism and Catholic tradition - a legacy that continues to shape how we educate, serve, and prepare young people to make a difference in the world.

FAITH. TRADITION. EXCELLENCE.

STVM is one of 19 secondary schools and three universities under Marianist sponsorship in the United States.

The Marianists, also know as the Society of Mary, were founded by Blessed William Joseph Chaminade in 1817. As a Marianist-sponsored school, we draw inspiration from Mary as a model of faith, as she is the perfect model of discipleship and shows us how to love, trust, and follow Jesus better than any other human being.

Our History

A LEGACY OF FAITH & EXCELLENCE SINCE 1896

The story of St. Vincent-St. Mary High School is a story of two proud traditions, united by a shared mission. St. Vincent High School, founded in 1907, and St. Mary High School, founded in 1897, each served generations of students in greater Akron with dedication and care. In 1972, these two schools joined together to form St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, blending their traditions into one vibrant community rooted in the Catholic faith tradition and academic excellence.

Today, we honor our past while embracing innovation — ensuring that the values and vision that shaped us continue to guide the leaders of tomorrow. We have been an integral part of the Akron community for more than 100 years, providing quality education rooted in the Catholic faith. More than 21,000 alumni of St. Mary, St. Vincent, and St. Vincent-St. Mary are proud to be a part of our rich history.

In 2017, St. Vincent-St. Mary officially became a Marianist-sponsored high school. From 2019-2025 STVM also was recognized as Ohio's only STEM-designated (science, technology, engineering and math) Catholic high school. In 2026, the school elevated its academic model and was accredited officially by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce and the Ohio STEM Learning Network as the only Catholic high school in the state of Ohio with a STEAM designation, adding recognition for the outstanding fine arts program to the award-winning STEM curriculum.
