What is the High School Placement Test (HSPT)?

The High School Placement Test (HSPT) is a national exam that tests students in five core areas: verbal ability, quantitative ability, reading, math, and language arts. This test is a required part of our admissions process for incoming freshmen. Students can take the HSPT at STVM or at other Catholic high schools. A student interested in an academic scholarship, a STVM Foundation scholarship, or being part of our intervention program is required to take the HSPT at STVM, and the highest score from all attempts will be accepted.

Test results are usually available two weeks after testing, and the score report is sent to the email address used to register the student. STVM uses HSPT scores along with 7th and 8th grade report cards, attendance and behavior records, teacher recommendation forms, and the admission application to determine if our academic program is a good match for your student.

Students needing accommodations for the HSPT can take the test on any of the scheduled dates, provided our Enrollment Office receives a copy of the IEP, ETR, 504, service, and/or accommodation plan no later than one week prior to the test.
